Zenit St Petersburg have pulled out of the race to sign
Roman Pavlyuchenko from Tottenham Hostpur.
And in a double blow to the Russia striker's chances of returning home,
Dynamo Moscow insist they have no intention of making a bid.
Reports last week claimed Zenit had made a ?10.2million bid for Pavlyuchenko,
but the club's president Alexander Dyukov insists he was not ready to
invest so much faith in a player who has not started a Barclays Premier
League match this season.
'The directors were considering loaning Roman Pavlyuchenko for six months
until the summer, to decide whether to buy him,' said Dyukov. 'Unfortunately,
this proposal didn't suit Tottenham. We wouldn't like to buy him at this
moment.'
Zenit, who signed Russia striker Alexander Kerzhakov for ?3.5m at the
weekend, could instead turn to former Sheffield United forward Colin Kazim-Richards.
Pavlyuchenko is desperate to escape White Hart Lane and his best hope
lies with Lokomotiv Moscow.
Fulham, Birmingham City, West Ham United, Liverpool and Roma have also
been rebuffed in enquiries to take Pavlyuchenko on loan.
His former club Spartak Moscow are interested, but are not willing to
meet Spurs' ?15m asking price after selling him at the peak of his powers
for ?13.8m following Euro 2008.
CSKA Moscow considered him in the summer but are now looking at other
options. And Dynamo Moscow were happier to sign Andriy Voronin from Liverpool
for ?1.8m rather than pay over the odds for Pavlyuchenko.
Dynamo sporting director Konstantin Sarsania said: 'Pavlyuchenko is a
good player, but we're not interested in him.
'Not so long ago we signed Andriy Voronin to fill the position of main
striker. In addition, the team is young and the talented (Aleksandr) Kokorin
and (Fyodor) Smolov will compete for a place.'
Zenit's new manager Luciano Spalletti arrived in St Petersburg to take
the reins on Monday and he will be offered London-born Turkey international
Kazim-Richards from Fenerbahce.
The 23-year-old has also been offered to Rubin Kazan, Spartak Moscow and
FC Moscow for ?3.5m.
The former Bury and Brighton player left Sheffield United for Istanbul
in a ?1.2m move two-and-a-half years ago but has been told he can leave.
Kazim-Richards has also been linked to Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers
this month.
