HIDDINK POSSIBLE REPLACEMENT IN WOLFSBURG

Whilst there have been no formal comments by Mr. Hiddink
or his representative at the time of this writing, a number of media outlets
with Germany are suggesting he is on the clubs short-list of candidates.
The defending Bundesliga champions, VfL Wolfsburg, brought in Armin Veh
last May following the highly controversial move of then-manager Felix
Magath's move to Schalke 04. However, the fortunes of "Die Wolfe"
quickly turned sour under the new manager and without a win since 7 November;
including Sunday's defeat to Koln that has seen them drop to tenth in
the table, management decided to end Armin Veh's reign.
Through the present campaign, the once powerful attack that boasts Bosnia
and Herzegovina internationals Edin Dzeko and Zvjezdan Misimovic as well
as veteran sharpshooter Grafite has experienced a considerable drop off,
whilst on the defending side Wolfsburg is one of most porous in the Bundesliga.
Wolfsburg, owned by automotive giant Volkswagen, are not shy of investing
in their side and whether it is Guus Hiddink or other supposed candidates,
Bernd Schuster, Hubb Stevens or Marco van Basten, who is handed the managerial
reign, the club possesses a rich abundance of talent.
After appointing Lorenz-Gunther Kostner on a temporary basis, general
manager Dieter Hoene? has suggested that the club will take be patient
in making its final decision. However, with chances of winning a berth
on the European stage quickly disappearing in what has turned in a highly
disappointing defence of their first Bundesliga crown, that patient is
likely to be tested.
