Arsenal midfielder Andrey Arshavin has joked on his personal
website that the profligacy in front of goal shown by teammate Nicklas
Bendtner's could prove 'fortunate' in the long run.
The Danish striker missed a hatful of chances against Burnley on Saturday
as the Gunners dominated from start to finish. However, with the score
tied at 1-1 it took interventions from Theo Walcott and a last gasp striker
from Arshavin himself to seal a 3-1 victory.
Asked in an interview on www.arshavin.eu, the diminutive Russian playmaker
responded to Bendtner's awkward day at the office and made clear that
with an important Champions League match with Porto on the horizon, the
22-year-old could still end the week as an Arsenal hero:
"Unfortunately, or fortunately, he did not score today.
"Why fortunately? I hope he was sparing his goals for Porto."
Arsenal find themselves having to overturn a 2-1 first leg defeat when
Porto arrive at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday. Having recovered domestically
to within two points of Premier League leaders Manchester United, the
Gunners will no doubt be hoping they can push on in Europe and finally
claim the top prize for the first time in the club's history.
