CSKA, who had looked so strong in early friendlies, were
well contained by Kurban Berdyev's side in the early stages of the match
though it was clear both sides were hesitant. Rubin came close to breaking
the deadlock but Cristian Ansaldi's cross from the left by-line, alluded
Alexandr Bukharov and was cleared to safety by CSKA's Sergey Ignashevich.
Rubin exposed CSKA's defenders later as Alexandr Bukharov was played through
before 'keeper Igor Akinfeev surged out to pull the ball away before the
striker latched onto it. The Army-Men slowly began to show some attacking
spirit as five minutes shy of the half-hour Tomas Necid's effort from
just inside the area was pushed aside by Rubin 'keeper Sergey Ryzhikov.
However ten minutes later Rubin took the 1-0 lead in a rare poor display
by CSKA's Igor Akinfeev as he mishit a clearance with the ball coming
to Alexandr Bukharov, who then drove it to the back of the net from twelve
metres to back of the net from twelve metres.
After the break, CSKA slowly began to show more attacking inspiration
as Tomas Necid sent Keisuke Honda in free on the left channel but the
Japanese international was denied by Rubin 'keeper Sergey Ryzhikov.
Seven minutes past the hour Leonid Slutsky summoned Alan Dzagoev into
the match for the much-needed attacking vision and the CSKA machine started
to run on all cylinders. Rubin were on their heels as CSKA launched a
number of high probability efforts, though each, including Mark Gonzalez',
were denied.
Keisuke Honda showed off his booming power with a spot kick from distance
that Sergey Ryzhikov stretched out to deny. The Army-Men continued to
look for the equalizer but were unable to do so and the match ended 1-0
in Rubin Kazan's favour, to claim the Russian Super Cup.
