The Chelsea owner has been a financial benefactor for Russian
football for a period of time and he could be formally asked to join the
Russian FA.
It is also public knowledge that Abramovich has also helped to pay the
salary of former Russian coach Guus Hiddink. Hiddink also had a short
but successful stint with Abramovich's Chelsea last season.
New Russian FA (RFU) chief Sergei Fursenko recently met Abramovich in
London to discuss, among other things, a more active role within the RFU.
"We are aware of the proposal and when the formal invitation is extended
Mr Abramovich will surely consider it," explained spokesman John
Mann.
Among the other influential figures believed to be approached are Spartak
Moscow owner Leonid Fedun and Alisher Usmanov, who has a 26 per cent stake
in Premier League rivals Arsenal.
