"I am happy to comment on my choice," said the
Dutch specialist. "These are the twenty strongest Russian players
at the moment."
"I picked up 20 men and not all 26 who were in the preliminary list
because we have only one friendly match and we do not need more."
"As in any exhibition game both teams will have an opportunity to
make six substitutions each. But taking into account that this is the
first sparring match for the team I do not plan many replacements - we
need to have a well-organized core."
"You, journalists, always need to know everything - who was the last
player we decided not to cap. I can say that this 21st player had an injury."
"As for the goalkeepers we took only two of them also because it
is enough for one match."
"Ryzhikov is a good goalkeeper but at the moment I think that Malafeev
is better. If Ryzhikov manages to prove me that I am wrong with his play
he will receive a call-up."
"I do not want to divide the team between internationals and those
who play in the Russian championship - they are all equal members of the
national team."
"I called up Zhirkov despite the fact that he will not be able to
take part in the first match of the Euro-2012 qualifying round against
Andorra. But he will be able to face Slovakia. On the contrary Kerzhakov
got a two-match suspension and that is why he is not on the list."
"I am very surprised that people did not understand my choice of
Torbinsky and Sychev. They are obviously best in Lokomotiv at the moment.
And it does not matter that Torbinsky hardly played in the first round
of the Premier League."
"For the first and last time I will explain to you something. Why
I did not take Bukharov? I have Pavlyuchenko and Pogrebnyak - what for
do I need one more forward of a similar type. It is more reasonable to
have strikers of the kind of Sychev and Kerzhakov instead."
