PAVLYUCHENKO: REAL FIGHT IS AHEAD
Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko scored important goal in the Champions
League play-off first leg clash against Young Boys in Bern yesterday.
Tottenham was three goals behind after the 28th minute of yesterday's
match but managed to fight two goals thanks to Sebastien Bassong and Roman
Pavlyuchenko. 2-3 score still gives Tottenham men a belief that they will
emerge triumphant in next Wednesday's second leg at White Hart Lane.
"We were absolutely failing before Bassong's goal", Pavlyuchenko
commented to Sport Express.
"We made gross mistakes, including my mistake when I lost the ball
and let Swiss players start their attack and score the second goal. By
the way Young Boys turned to be a good team".
"When we were 0-3 behind, I thought that Champions League was finished
for us. Thanks God Bassong scored a goal before the break that helped
us show our best football".
"We looked as absolute losers until the 42nd minute and leading the
ball to the opposite penalty area was an impracticable task".
"It's wrong to blame bad pitch, because it is the same for both teams,
but notice that our four defenders - Defoe, dos Santos, Huddlestone and
Modric - finished the match with different injuries".
"Practically I became the fifth player to get injured, because I
felt pain after one episode at the end of the game. Don't give way to
panic, because I am going to be perfectly fit for the Saturday match with
Stoke City".
"I cannot afford unplanned holidays now, because it will immediately
keep me sidelined from the lineup".
"I cannot be satisfied with defeat, but real fight is still ahead.
Let's see whether Young Boys are strong away too".
