Andrey Arshavin, "I want to win the Champions
League"
Arsenal midfielder Andrey Arshavin has set the Champions League as one
of his personal objectives of the season as he promised magic on the pitch.
Speaking to Arsenal TV Online's Spotlight programme ahead of this afternoon's
draw in Monaco, the Russian declared how he wants to win this season's
Champions League. Arshavin, 29, also said how he wants fans to remember
him for the magic he does on the pitch though they will not always understand
how he is capable of doing it.
The midfielder, who on his personal website wrote that beating Blackburn
is a must before the break, highlighted also the importance of focusing
on the job and not letting media and fans expectations disturb a player's
concentration.
The Gunners, who are in Pot 1 - will today find out who they will be facing
in the group stage of Europe's most prestigious club competition. A detailed
analysis of who they can get is available on the club's official website.
On the season ahead, Arshavin said:
I want to win the Champions League.
[When I retire] I want to be remembered as a small Russian guy who did
some magic things where people did not understand how he did it.
If you are focused on [media expectations] you cannot give a good performance.
You cannot give a good performance because you think about how you look
for people. I think it disturbs you.
